I would be interested.  Former USAF Aircrew South East Asia.  7th Airborne Battlefield Command and Control.  If further discussions will take place on Discord, could we get an active invite link?

Question: is it always assumed that Virtual Military Flight Organizations are primarily concerned with air Combat ?

There are usually a lot of roles to fill in a vSOA; SAR, AR, Transport, .... But usually the most popular role is Air Combat. Everyone seems to want to go high, fast and pretend to shoot at things!  ;D

In my view, trying to insert Air Combat into MSFS (any version) is like trying to insert a square peg into a round hole.  Chasing empty air is somewhat boring.

On the other hand.....Transport offers all the same possibilities as any VA with the added feature you could be going into places hardly any VAs do.

And then there's SAR.....FS "hide & seek" anyone? Different scenarios multiplied by the number of different aicraft we operate - the variations are many, including vertical extraction. (downed aircraft could be created and positioned with FSDS and ELT's can readily be simulated and homed on.)

How about humanitarian missions, including MEDEVAC, spring flooding and Forest Fire EVACS. The list goes on and on.

Food for thought

Some ideas of normally forbidden things on VATSIM from https://www.vatsim.net/sites/default/files/documents/VSOAPolicyMarch2019.pdf
Quote
-Conducting joint training exercises with other approved VSO organizations
-War games
-Air to air refueling
-Carrier operations
-Flying low level military training routes
-Flying escort missions
-Executing air combat maneuvers
-Interception/scramble of other aircraft
-Having access to special use airspace.
-Search & Rescue and Firefighting

For me it'll be Interception of noobs and I'll spend my spare time flexing in some CYR.

"Conducting joint training exercises with other approved VSO organizations" sounds really constructive. Practicing with other people you never met from different part of the globe. Getting out of our comfort zone.
