Montreal (CZUL) / Thanks to Jason!

Hi guys,

I was helping a newish CXA pilot with some RNAV procedures last night and Jason, whom was working Montreal Centre, was good enough to accommodate some RNAV approaches into Ottawa.  I was pleasantly surprised when even more traffic popped up at Ottawa.  Jason, thank you for your patience and support!  You were excellent to work with.

I look forward to more flying in the Montreal FIR soon!

All the best,

Winnipeg (CZWG) / Sector file update
« on: April 09, 2019, 04:02:17 PM »
Hi all,

Could I request that the sector file be updated?  I have no idea how to do it I'm afraid.  Getting it to a 1903/1904 level would be ideal.

Keep up the great work!

General Discussion / Free CFS & TC-AIM from 2015 - just shipping cost
« on: April 06, 2019, 10:03:15 AM »
Hi guys,

I picked up some used aviation reference guides the other day and they came with an old CFS and a TC-AIM. Both from 2015. I do not need them and will recycle them unless anyone wants them? You can get a TC-AIM soft copy PDF from Transport Canada for free and has the CFS you can download. I know some people prefer hard copies even if out of date.

Let me know by end of the month.

General Discussion / Handoff issues
« on: April 05, 2019, 10:29:42 PM »
Hi all,

I have worked two heavy events recently and I am fascinated by the attitude I am receiving when trying to handoff aircraft to MSP and SLC.  I'm sure it's user error on my part but when I do a manual transfer with usually plenty of advance notice before crossing the border it either works or I get a nastygram on the ATC chat about late handoffs or something to that extent.

Is it just me or does anyone else notice the same?

Certainly puts a bad taste in your mouth while working a lot of traffic.

Winnipeg (CZWG) / CXA Group flight - Friday, April 5 at 21:00 ET

CXA is doing a group flight from CYWG to KMSP leaving at 21:00 ET

I'll do my best to provide some ATC that evening starting around 20:00 ET or so.

Winnipeg (CZWG) / Winnipeg Wednesday
« on: January 14, 2019, 07:36:28 AM »
Hi guys

Ken Greenwood posted an idea I had on the Moncton FIR forum.  He kindly did some flights in the Winnipeg FIR last Wednesday.  This Wednesday I am busy in the evening but I am planning to control the following Wednesday pending any change in plans.

Hi everyone,

First off, thank you to all the great controllers in VATCAN!  I thoroughly enjoy flying in Canada on VATSIM and appreciate all the great work and ATC you provide.

A little about me... I apologise for mentioning some old names but perhaps these folks are still around?

I've been with SATCO/Vatsim since the very early days and I used to love controlling in the Toronto FIR many, many years ago.  I was drawn to SATCO/Vatsim back in the late 1990s when I was planning on getting my PPL.  With a lot of patience and persistence that finally happened in 2003 back in my Ottawa days.  I found online flying helped with my radio skills and I had a chance to chat with my knowledgeable people.  One guy in particular was a huge help and I was fortunate to have many chats and ATC sessions with Mike Langhan.  I had the pleasure of visiting with him as well many years ago.  Here are some other names from the past... Dennis Sander, Chris Brew, Chris Taylor and Rick Neill.  What great memories.  Perhaps others remember those names?  I applied to NavCanada back in 2001 and had gotten accepted but sadly 9/11 happened and I was told that all the training was put on hold. Life happened, things changed and here we are.

I held some administrative positions back in the day while helping with Toronto FIR.  Is there a FIR that would welcome a very rusty controller back in their fold?  I will start by watching the CBT videos which Rob has posted over the next few weeks.

We live in Barrie, ON and I now have 2 young daughters and a very busy wife who works most evenings.  I'm hoping to do some controlling between 8pm ET and 10pm ET some weekdays a week if the planets align and everything works out.  I could be available on weekends as well at times.  Such is the life of a busy father/worker.  I'd be very open to controlling in Winnipeg FIR, Toronto FIR or others however the time zones may not work out.

If this is the wrong section for such a post I apologise.  Please feel free to move it.

All the best,
Dan - VID 810379
