ATC Controllers Forum / Re: MANOPS - UPDATE?
« on: October 26, 2018, 09:51:13 PM »
MANOPS was replaced at NavCanada with, guess what, a Computer Based Training system.

There hasn't been a new copy of MANOPS in a few years. Obi might have the most recent copy!

General Discussion / Resignation of VATCAN1
« on: January 09, 2018, 03:35:12 PM »

I have tendered my resignation as Director - Canada Division to Nicola Felini, North America Region Director.

This is by no means an easy decision and I sincerely wish there was an alternative.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as your Division Director, it was a pleasure.

Nicola will make further announcements in the near future.

General Discussion / Vancouver FIR Chief - Brad Crockett
« on: November 28, 2017, 12:50:48 AM »

In regards to the position of Vancouver FIR Chief. 2 applications were received. Brad Crockett, and another member.

Upon review, the other member did not meet the requirements of the position.

Brad Crockett is a longstanding member of the VATSIM network and began his VATSIM ATC journey in June of 2005.

With nearly a decade of experience as an Instructor, Brad has been a fixture in CZVR teaching numerous students, making a major impact on the division and the network.

On November 27, 2017 at the Q3 VATCAN Staff meeting, it was voted that Brad would receive the rating of Senior Instructor (I3) for his distinguished service to the network.

On November 28, 2017, I appointed Brad Crockett (921002) as the new Vancouver FIR Chief.

Congratulations Brad, very well deserved. I look forward to working with you.

General Discussion / Re: Never been so embarrassed.
« on: November 09, 2017, 11:42:57 PM »

Sorry this response is so late coming.

VATCAN does not condone the actions of this member and personally, I was very saddened to see this be the outcome of a otherwise great CTP.

This case was dealt with by VATSIM directly and the outcome of that was not disclosed to myself and is not public.

The member could make an apology which would certainly be welcomed, however they are under no direct requirement to do so from VATCAN.

It is my hope that VATSIM was able to come to a resolution that will prevent this type of occurrence from happening again with this particular issue.

Jared, if you believe my response is inadequate for the comments the member made, I assure you I did not take this facebook post lightly. I am not able to provide any more insight or information, simply because I have none.

This topic will remain locked to protect the members identity, as you did in your original post.

Division Updates / Allow Me to Introduce Myself... finally.
« on: November 08, 2017, 01:50:11 PM »
This was originally sent to the entire division via email, or so I thought.

For those of you who do not know me, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Graham Curnew. I’m a student completing my final year in post-secondary and I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia. On June 22nd, I was selected by Nicola Felini, Region Director for North America, to assume the position of VATCAN Division Director.

My role in this position includes providing leadership to the division and its FIR’s, being a link between the "front line" of the network and the VATSIM North America Region, Monitoring, reviewing, and enhancing all existing division programs, including training and membership and regularly reviewing ATC progression while ensuring that upgrade recommendations for qualified candidates are acted on promptly.
I have already started to make some staffing changes in the Division. Nathan Power was selected to become the Director of Oceanic, vacating his previous position of Communications and Events Director of VATCAN to which Aidan Stevens has been selected to fulfill the duties.

It is my goal that we continue to move forward as a Division to grow online presence, student training initiatives and build on relationships with virtual airlines, along with our neighbouring division and ARTCC’s.

I maintain an open-door policy. I am on TeamSpeak often and you can always email me.
I look forward to working with you all to build a better, stronger VATCAN.

Blue Skies,

I will email you further details on your next steps.

See you on the scope.

Thanks to Aidan Stevens for creating an excellent website, from scratch.

General Discussion / Re: Unfair Practices within VATCAN
« on: July 11, 2017, 01:24:13 AM »

I will be taking all of these suggestions into consideration for upcoming staff announcements among other ideas.

I will be holding a VATCAN Town Hall in the weeks to come to discuss items, some of which were mentioned on this post. More details will be released as they become available.

General Discussion / Thank You to Mark Walsh
« on: July 04, 2017, 11:12:30 PM »

This is long overdue, I thought I had posted it but I must've forgotten.

Mark Walsh has submitted his resignation for the VATCAN Deputy Director position as is customary with a new incoming Division Director.

Please join me in thanking Mark for his service to the division and wishing him blue skies in both VATCAN and his role with Canadian Xpress.

General Discussion / Re: Unfair Practices within VATCAN

Thank you for your input into this discussion. I appreciate it!

Aidan's appointment was announced on the VATSIM forums.

I can agree that not everything posted onto the VATSIM forums made it onto the VATCAN forums. Something I will correct moving forward. This seems to be where these problems are stemming from.

I was shocked to find that I did not announce Mark Walsh's resignation. An oversight on my part for sure, something I will be fixing immediately following this reply.

If anyone else has any concerns, I'd be more than happy to address them.
